Allen Park students duct tape assistant principal to wall

Class won competition to raise most money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Middle school students in Allen Park had some fun Tuesday with duct tape.

The students had been competing in a fundraiser to see which class at Allen Park Middle School could raise the most money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. The winning class got to duct tape the assistant principal to a gym wall.

Overall, the school raised $1,000 in four days.

"We had several students donate money from their own bank accounts as opposed to asking their parents; one 6th grade girl donated her own $100 because her best friend died of cancer when she was 8 years old," Colleen Churchill, a teacher at the school, wrote in an email to ClickOnDetroit.

Churchill said there are several families in Allen Park and in Wayne County receiving services from the the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

"So the students are helping people in their own community as well as across the country," she wrote in the email.
