Angelica Robinson is an internal affairs officer in the Detroit Police Department. She says she has had an affair with Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee for more than a year.

The Detroit police officer who came forward to say she had relationship with Police Chief Ralph Godbee heads back to work today.

Angelica Robinson said she was involved with Godbee for more than a year.

Robinson, a 17-year veteran of the department, is married.

Godbee is separated from his wife -- they filed for divorce in August.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing suspended Godbee for 30 days this week when the allegations surfaced.

The Detroit Board of Police Commissioners have said they’re not happy with the mayor’s action because no complaints had been filed with them regarding Godbee before his suspension. They are requesting to be allowed to conduct their own investigation into the allegations.

Robinson’s attorney, David Robinson, said his client tried to break it off with Godbee but it didn’t go well.

"He's disenchanted with rejection and so he continues to make overtures to promising that everything is going to be OK," David Robinson said.

Robinson posted a picture of herself on Twitter holding a gun in her mouth. DPD sent officers to her home to check on her over a possible suicide attempt.

She had her department-issued gun confiscated but has since passed a psychiatric evaluation and will be allowed to return to the position in Internal Affairs.

Angelica Robinson said she wants the chief to "just tell the truth."

"If he is a man of God he will tell the truth," she said. "I truly apologize to his wife and my husband."

Bing has been on vacation and is expected to be back in the city Friday.

This is the second time Godbee has been tied to an extramarital affair with a coworker or subordinate.
