West Bloomfield can drive with a twist

Students at West Bloomfield's Scotch Elementary School have put a new twist on an old favorite community project.
The school stage has been turned into a temporary art exhibit after students collected more than 1500 cans and turned them into six very cool sculptures.
The school of 700 students was divided into six teams, each led by a 5th grade class. The 5th graders designed structures to be built out of the collected cans and then took their top designs to a vote by the classes.
The winning sculptures are The Empire State Building (complete with a King Kong), a huge Hershey bar, a giant Coca-Cola bottle, an enormous rainbow pencil, a lighthouse and a replica Pistons basketball court.
Wednesday, March 27, the sculptures will be dismantled and Gleaners Food Bank will benefit from the collected cans.
