Website Examines If Mich. Schools Make The Grade

Information Designed To Help Parents Rate Schools

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan has launched a website that opens the books on the state's high schools.

MiSchoolData.org went live Monday with test scores, enrollment information and school report cards for every Michigan public school. The site eventually is expected to include information on how many students from each school go to college and how they do there.

The information is designed to help parents and the public rate schools, and administrators boost their schools' performance.

Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals Executive Director Jim Ballard compares it to a "Consumer Reports for schools." But he says the data "has the potential to be used against us."
