Wayne County's prosecutor named to magazine's fierce list

Kym L. Worthy on 'Most Fierce' list for More Magazine

DETROIT – Wayne County's prosecutor has a new title to add to her long career.

Kym L. Worthy, who started her legal career in Wayne County in 1984, made the most fierce list for More Magazine.

The list features 48 prominent women who are selected for their unique perspectives, dedication and commitment to their professions.  

The list is in the May edition of the magazine which currently on newsstands.

About Worthy:

Worthy received her undergraduate degree in economics and political science from the University of Michigan, and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame School of Law.

She became the Wayne County Prosecutor in 2004 and in doing so became the first African American and the first female to hold the position

She now specializes in high profile murder cases.

A few past notable cases include the prosecution of Kwame Kilpatrick and the two police officers convicted in the beating death of Malice Green.

Forbes Magazine recently named Detroit as the most violent city in America and Worthy's office tackles the 10th largest case load across the county, according their website.

Worthy recently appeared on NBC's Rock Center with Kate Snow to speak on her mission to bring justice to thousands of rape victim's in Detroit.

"You've been called the toughest woman in Detroit," Snow says to Worthy in her interview. "I've been called a lot of things, that's just one of them," Worthy responds.
