Dexter Explosion
DEXTER VILLAGE, Mich. -

The names of the victims from an explosion in a tank at a wastewater treatment plant in Dexter Village have been released.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said 48-year-old Michael Koch of Brooklyn Michigan was killed in the methane gas explosion at the Dexter Utilities Department's Water Treatment Plant -- which is at 8360 Huron Street.

David McBride, 23, of Howell, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Dexter Area Fire Department Chief Loren Yates said both men were believed to be inside the tank when the explosion occurred, and investigators suspect that the men's blow torches ignited the gas.

The Sheriff's Office said the incident isn't being investigated as criminal and that MIOSHA will continue to look into it.
