United States Postal Service: Mail out letters early

DETROIT – Between Thanksgiving and Christmas the United States Postal Service (USPS) says more than 15.2 billion pieces of mail will be delivered.

The USPS says Monday, Dec. 17th is the busiest mailing day for holiday packages, cards and letters.

Mail volume is estimated to reach 658 million pieces today alone.

The Postal Service is encouraging everyone to mail early.

Mail-by letter dates for Christmas arrival:

  • Dec. 17th is the last day to ship to military.
  • Dec 19th is the last day for most international shipping.
  • By Dec. 20th for first class mail.
  • By Dec. 21th for first class mail.
  • By Dec. 22th for express mail.

The USPS says the busiest carrier delivery day for mail is Wednesday.

Most Post Offices and mail collections will close early on Christmas Eve and all will be closed with no mail collection on Dec. 25th
