Rapist is believed to have attacked a couple on Detroit's East side on New Year's Day

Charges were handed down to 22-year-old Howard McKnight of Detroit for the New Year's Eve attack and robbery of a husband and wife.

On December 31, a 56-year-old woman and her husband were driving near Findlay and Bradford in Detroit just before midnight when their car became lodged in snow.

That's when, police say, McKnight approached the couple and pulled out a gun. He robbed the woman of her jewelry and took $280 from the couple. Police say he then sexually assaulted the wife while pointing the gun at the husband threatening to kill them.

McKnight then left the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital.

McKnight was arrested on Thursday. He is expected to be arraigned Sunday at noon.
