DETROIT -

A ceramic pig statue which restaurant staff said was stolen on Sunday was returned Monday night to the Red Smoke Barbeque in Detroit's Greektown.

The statue was taken by a man who had dined at the restaurant on Sunday, staff said. He simply grabbed the pig from the restaurant counter and walked out.

However, an employee's friend snapped a photo of the thief in an elevator. He posed for the photo.

The restaurant's manager said the thief apparently paid someone to return the pig on Monday.

The statue has a chip on the snout but otherwise is in good condition, she said.

It originally was a birthday gift to Red Smoke owner Tasso Teftsis.
