Southwest Detroit house fire displaces family of 10

Fire started in vacant home, spread to neighboring house with sleeping family inside

DETROIT – An early Monday morning fire ripped through a vacant southwest Detroit home, destroying the neighboring home.

The fire started at a house located at Thaddeus and Dearborn.

It then spread to the neighboring home where a family of 10 was asleep inside.

A 10-year-old boy in the home says he woke up and saw fire out his window and ran downstairs to alert his family.

The family evacuated and no one was hurt.

The mother of the home says she has been pleading with the city of Detroit to tear down the home.

Firefighters fought to put out the blaze and none of them were hurt while fighting the fire.
