Sources say evidence contradicts slain Grosse Pointe Park woman's husband's story

Jane Bashara found strangled last week in Detroit

DETROIT – Local 4 Defenders have learned that new evidence contradicts what the husband of a murdered Grosse Pointe Park woman has said about the night she went missing.

Jane Bashara was found dead Wednesday morning in the back of her SUV, which was parked in an alley on Detroit's east side. She had been strangled.

Her husband, Bob Bashara, reported her missing Tuesday night. He has said he never saw his wife that night and got worried when she wouldn't answer her cell phone.

But sources confirmed to Local 4 on Monday that there is new evidence that the couple had been together Tuesday night in downtown Detroit.

Bob Bashara, has been pegged a person of interest by police. He failed a polygraph. But he has not been charged.

Other developments in the case Monday involved a mystery man who had been seen in the same area where Jane's body was found.

Local 4 Defenders aired the report at 4 p.m. about the man, who was reported to be asking people for information in the case and offering a cash reward. He went by the name "Jim." Neighbors Local 4talked with said they were wary of the man because they hadn't heard about a reward and the man wasn't a law enforcement officer.

But after the Defenders report, the man called Local 4 and explained that he was a good family friend who was just trying to help.
