Runners hit the street for the Brooksie Way Run

ROCHESTER, Mich. -

Runners took to the street for the the fifth annual Brooksie Way Half-Marathon and 5K run Sunday morning at Oakland University in Rochester.

Participants took off just after 8 a.m. for the event named in memory of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's son. Brooks Stuart Patterson died in 2007 following a snowmobile accident.  He was 28 years old.

Proceeds from the run will benefit nonprofits and programs that encourage health and fitness.

73-year-old L. Brooks Patterson is continuing rehabilitation after was involved in a car crash on August 10. Patterson suffered broken bones and a gash to his head.
