ROMULUS, Mich. -

A Romulus police officer is feeling lucky to be alive.

On Friday, a home invasion suspect ran over the officer with his vehicle while fleeing from police, injuring his leg and foot.

At the same time, the officer fired his gun, stopping the vehicle and the suspect.

The incident happened on the 9000 block of Biddle.

The police officer was treated at a nearby hospital and released later in the night. The suspect is in stable condition under police watch.

Michigan State Police have taken over the investigation.
