The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was on lockdown after a gunman was reported on the campus Saturday morning, but police called the report "unfounded" after searching the campus, according to Boston TV station WCVB.

The man was reported in a campus building carrying a long rifle and wearing body armor, prompting an alert to the campus community. The alert advised people to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity to police, according to the AP.

After searching the campus, Cambridge police said they found no sign of a gunman, according to WCVB.
