DETROIT -

Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Jeff Blashill is leaving to take over as the head coach of the team's minor league affiliate in Grand Rapids.

The Red Wings announced Blashill's move Monday.

Blashill replaces Curt Fraser as coach of the Griffins, who play in the American Hockey League. Fraser recently took an assistant coaching position with the Dallas Stars.

Blashill was an assistant with the Red Wings last season after previously coaching at Western Michigan.
