TROY, Mich. -

The preliminary hearing for a Troy man accused of murdering his father will be Sept. 24.

Patrick Mikes Jr. is charged with open murder for killing his father, Patrick Mikes Sr., in their family home at the end of July and then dumping his body in a field in Montrose – which is near Flint.

He returned to court briefly Monday, where a judge set his next court date.

Patrick Mikes Sr., 55, was reported missing by his two sons on July 29. They said he had left their home for a bike ride today days earlier and never came home.

Troy police said they think the father was killed in the basement of his home because investigators found evidence of a struggle and blood. The Oakland County Medical Examiner has said Mikes died from blunt force trauma to his head.
