DETROIT -

A police chase down the I-75 service drive ended in a crash that killed one and injured two others Saturday afternoon.

Officials say the accident caused the service drive at 8 Mile to shut down.

Witnesses said the older model Lincoln Michigan State Police were chasing went about 90 miles per hour down the service drive until it hit a pickup truck, causing an accident that sent car parts flying and totaling the truck.

"The only thing I had seen by the time I ran to the center of the road was just a cloud of dust and then, that was it," said one witness. "I would say they to had to have been going at least 90 miles an hour."

After seeing the wreckage, witnesses said it's amazing to think the two people inside the truck are alive and being treated at a nearby hospital.

Officials said the driver of the Lincoln died in the accident.

"A trooper observed this vehicle run a stop light at McNichols and I-75," said an MSP trooper.

A police trooper gave chase, but officials said the driver of the stolen car had no intention of pulling over.

Sources tell Local 4 the trooper was on the service drive when the Lincoln nearly clipped him. The trooper ran the license plate and saw that the vehicle had been stolen and gave chase.
