Police: Man attempted to sexually assault woman in Pittsfield Township near Ypsilanti border

Police say man attacked 53-year-old woman when she left convenience store in Ypsilanti

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Pittsfield Township police are searching for a man suspected of attempting to sexually assault a 53-year-old woman Thursday night near Buster's Mini Market on Golfside Drive in Ypsilanti.

Police say the man made his move when he walked out of the store. The woman had left the same store seconds before.

She was walking through an office building park not far from the store in the 4900 block of Clark Road -- in Pittsfield Township -- when the man attacked her, police said. However, thanks to a witness, the woman escaped.

Police hope hope surveillance images from the convenience store can help identify him. He is described as a black man who was wearing a black hat, white T-shirt and dark pants. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and in his late 20s or early 30s.
