Pedestrian killed in freeway crash identified

Man hit by mail truck a he walked on highway

DETROIT – Michigan State Police officers are investigating an early morning accident involving a pedestrian who was struck and killed while walking along I-96 near Warren Avenue.

The accident happened around 3 a.m.

Police said 56-year-old Dennis Carver's car had broken down and he was walking toward the exit when he was hit by a postal truck.

Carver, a Bloomfield resident, was rushed to Henry Ford Hospital were he was pronounced dead.

The man's car has some damage, it's unclear if he was in a car accident.

Friday's accident happened just one day after a 41-year-old firefighter was killed when he was hit by several cars on westbound Interstate 696 near Farmington Road.

Michigan State Police said Daniel Armitage was outside of his SUV on the side of the road when he was hit by at least three cars just before 7 a.m. They said he may have been changing a tire.
