Parking may stand in way of Royal Oak hotel complex

ROYAL OAK, Mich. -

A hotel could be coming to Royal Oak.

A major plan is in the works right now to bring a huge hotel complex, including apartments, retail, office space, and a parking garage to the downtown area, but it has a long way to go.

It would be built on North Main Street, an area Kroger failed to buy last year.

The biggest concern is parking.

“There is a very bad lack of parking in Royal Oak,” said one Royal Oak resident.

Krieger Klatt Architects presented the proposal to the Planning Commission during a meeting at City Hall on Tuesday.

“I think a hotel in town is probably the number one thing the city needs right now,” said another resident.

“We’re glad to see development in the city and things taking place and we hope that you give it due consideration,” said another resident during public comment.

No word yet on which hotel could occupy the space.

There will be more meetings before anything is final.
