Oakland County chief medical examiner recovering at Detroit hospital after medical emergency in courtroom

Dr. Ljubisa Dragovic collapsed Thursday, revived with defibrillator

DETROIT – Oakland County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Ljubisa Dragovic is resting comfortably at a downtown Detroit hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack in a courtroom.

Dragovic, a nationally-renowned forensic pathologist, was testifying Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard M. Skutt's courtroom in a murder as a defense witness when he collapsed.

Two jurors helped give Dragovic CPR and a defibrillator was used.

While Dragovic recovers, Dr. Kanubhai Virani will assume chief medical examiner duties for the county.

There is no date set for Dragovic's release from the hospital or return to work.
