Novi police: Road rage incident ends with man shot in face on New Year's Eve

NOVI, Mich. -

Novi police said a New Year's Eve road rage incident involving two men ended with one of them being shot in the face.

Police said the two men starting their argument in Wixom and ended it in a confrontation in the Novi Square Plaza.

Police said both of the drivers were armed with handguns and a 30-year-old Wolverine Lake man fired a shot at a 35-year-old Sterling Heights man.

The Sterling Heights man was hit in the face and ended up crashing his Cadillac Escalade into a Dollar Tree store.

"The gentleman who admits to firing the shots at the motorist did call 911 and reported the incident immediately, and stayed on scene until police arrived," said Novi police Deputy Chief Jerrod Hart. "He basically has shared information that there was some showing of guns and ultimately he fired his weapon at the other motorist."

The Wolverine Lake man was also found at the scene.

The Sterling Heights man is expected to recover.

Police haven't said if any charges will be issued in the incident. Both men are licensed to carry concealed pistols.
