New Bashara attorney says mistress 'misunderstood' relationship with Bob Bashara

Bob Bashara's defense stresses Rachel Gillett 'misunderstood' her relationship with married Grosse Pointe Park man

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Bob Bashara is responding to Rachel Gillett's interview with Local 4.

Gillett painted a story of lies and deceit. She said Bashara betrayed her and lied to her about his wife and children.

Now, Bashara's newest attorney, Christina Utley, is firing back. She says Gillett misunderstood her three-year relationship with Bashara.

"It was evident she and Mr. Bashara were not on the same page in regards to their relationship," the attorney said. "And if Ms. Gillett was mislead in any way regarding that relationship we would like to take this opportunity to apologize to her."

Gillett said she was in love with Bob Bashara.

"In retrospect, I realized he lied to me and manipulated me and now I find myself in a position I never imagined I would be in," Gillett said.

In her exclusive interview with the Local 4 Defenders, Gillett said Bashara started their relationship off with a lie.

"At the beginning of our relationship when I first met Mr. Bashara online, he actually, on his profile, said that he was widowed ... and was raising a teenage daughter by himself," Gillett said.

"That they both had agreed on a divorce and that they were living very separate lives. At no time did I think that was a good, solid relationship."

Gillett said that near the end of her relationship with Bob Bashara she fully believed the Basharas were divorced.

"I was told in May of 2011 that the divorce was final," she said. "For the last eight months of our relationship I though he was finally divorced. We looked for a house. We went many places in Grosse Pointe in in the area."
