Michael John Andrews dies in truck fire after 2 tracker trailers crash on US-223 in Whiteford Township

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man driving a tracker trailer has died in a fire Wednesday after a crash involving another tractor trailer on US-223 at Creque Road in Whiteford Township.

The driver who died has been identified as 33-year-old Michael John Andrews of Monroe, Michigan.

Police say that Andrews's truck was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene of the accident.

Firefighters fought to put out the blaze but Andrews perished in the fire.

Police say the accident happened when Andrews, who was heading westbound, collided into the rear of a second tractor trailer which was turning left.

The second truck, driven by Randolph M. Perdue, age 61 of Iowa, rotated and came to rest on the shoulder.

The semi trailer driven by Andrews rolled over and into a ditch trapping the driver inside as it caught fire, police say.

Perdue was not injured in the crash.

Eastbound traffic on US-223 is closed and is being diverted onto either Memorial Highway or Sylvania Petersburg Road.

The crash remains under investigation.
