FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of 57-year-old Robert Anthony Laboe.

On Thursday morning, around 8 a.m., the Sheriff's office responded to a report of a body in Frenchtown Township near Frenchtown Center Drive, just north of N. Dixie Highway.

Deputies Todd Sulfaro and Robert Blair responded to the scene along with members of the Frenchtown Township Volunteer Fire Department to find the Monroe man lying in a grassy area.

Laboe was driving his car in the parking lot of American's Best Value Inn when it appeared he drove off and got stuck in the mud, according to officials. There was no damage to the vehicle but police believe Laboe fled on foot into a field north of the hotel where he was found dead.

Laboe was found by an employee of the Truck and Car Wash on Frenchtown Center Drive. He was covered in mud.

Both alcohol and drugs appear to be a factor, according to police. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
