BAY CITY, Mich. -

A mid-Michigan mom seeking a kidney donor for her 10-year-old daughter says her public campaign recently included holding a roadside sign asking motorists to get tested as a possible match.

Stacey Schwerin tells MLive.com she turned down cash donations last week because she's "more worried about finding a donor" for her daughter, Jessica.

She says the vigil yielded offers from two strangers as possible donor matches.

Jessica was diagnosed last month with chronic kidney failure.

Stacey can't provide a kidney because of her own health problems that include diabetes and fibromyalgia.

Meanwhile, Jessica remains on the state's organ donor registry and faces dialysis treatments that pose geographic and financial challenges for the family.

Jessica is one of countless individuals across Michigan waiting for help from potential donors.

Eligible donors must be at least 18 years old and have no major health problems.

Potential kidney donors should consult with their physician to determine if they are healthy enough.

Eligible donors for Jessica can call Stacey Schwerin at 989-892-3739.
