DETROIT -

Detroit-area police departments will have increased patrols Wednesday night as Metro Detroiters head out to celebrate the holiday weekend.

Police say that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the busiest night of the year for bars. The night's drinking festivities surpasses St. Patrick's Day and New Years.

Those consuming alcoholic beverages are warned not to get behind the wheel. Police will be working extra hard to make sure anyone driving while intoxicated is pulled over and locked up.

Drunk driving has been a deadly problem for law enforcement and cases tend to increase on this busy bar night, police say.
