Oakland County Sheriffs responded to a two vehicle accident Sunday morning on the 500 block of Sunnyside Drive in Independence Township.

One of the vehicles went off the road and hit home, damaging the gas meter attached to the residence.

Consumers energy was called in to replace the outer meter. Fearing the inner gas line may have been ruptured, fire fighters and Consumer Energy forced their way into the unoccupied home only to find an elaborate marijuana grow operation in the basement.

The workers then informed the police who then executed a search warrant.

Police found 12 marijuana plants, 4 pounds of usable marijuana in 20 separate mason jars, 2 digital scales, packaging, money, documents and a laptop computer.

During the search, the 26-year-old homeowner returned home and was arrested. He was taken to Oakland County Jail.
