A man is behind bars after police say he tried to stab an off-duty officer.

Alan Mays tried to walk off with a 42-inch TV from Walmart in Canton Township, according to police, but an off-duty officer from Novi was in the store at the time and got involved.

Mays has already been arraigned, he’ll return to court for a preliminary exam on Nov. 19.
