Man shot, set on fire on Detroit's east side

Victim in critical condition condition after being found on Knodell Street

DETROIT – Detroit police investigators are teaming up with Detroit Fire Department arson investigators to solve a grisly crime on the city's east side.

EMS crews were called to Knodell near French, just off of Gratiot, early Thursday morning for a man down and in dire need of help.

When police and medic crews arrived, they found a man who had been shot several times in his face and his attackers didn't end the brutality with just gunfire. The man was then doused with lighter fluid and set on fire.

You can see from the Local 4 video that the man was badly burned, yet he was alert enough to tell crews what happened to him.

Local 4 is told that the man was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital. He is now listed in critical condition, according to investigators.

The man is 35 years old.

One man, who was arriving to work, told us he watched police go door to doo asking resident if they could help find the culprits.

"I hope it's not our neighbor," he said.
