DETROIT – Richard McIntire bought a bus ticket but found himself looking for a ride.
McIntire, 70, was taking a Greyhound bus from Amarillo, Texas to Detroit. He had a stop in Dayton, Ohio. He was supposed to change buses but he was sleeping.
"Nobody woke me up," he said. "Nobody told me where we were and I was supposed to change busses at that point."
McIntire is hearing impaired. He woke up and was still in his seat. However, he said the bus was headed to St. Louis, not Detroit.
That's when he says the Greyhound bus driver gave him an option.
"I said, 'Can you turn around? Can you go back and drop me off at the terminal?' He said, 'No. I can't break my schedule.' I said, 'What are my options?' He said, 'You can find your own way back or you can go to St. Louis,'" McIntire said.
McIntire said he was dropped off without his luggage on the side of the road somewhere in Ohio.
He called his wife, Ellen.
"He said, 'Hi, um, I'm stuck. They let me off the bus on the side of the road and I don't know how I'm going to get home," Ellen said.
But then, an 80-year-old woman, Ethel, gave him a lift back to the station in Dayton to catch a bus to Detroit.
"Thank you for taking time out to pick me up," McIntire said. "Thanks for running me all over Dayton to find the bus station."
