Man found shot dead after SUV crashes into tree in northwest Detroit

Police say victim in 30s found near West Outer Drive, Bretton

DETROIT – A man was found shot dead in the head Tuesday morning after the SUV he was driving crashed into a tree in northwest Detroit.

Police said the victim, who is in his 30s, was found near West Outer Drive and Bretton Drive just after 9 a.m. They said there were bullet holes through the driver's side window.

People at the scene identified the victim as Wayman Bryant.

Deborah Thornton, who said she was Bryant's cousin, said he had been on his way to work at a construction business when he was shot.

"He took care of his family ... he was a loving, kind person," she said.

Thornton said Bryant was married with four children.

The scene is near the home of famed Kronk gym trainer Emanual Steward.
