Man charged with murder for taxi driver's shooting death in Detroit

DETROIT -

A 21-year-old Detroit man has been charged with murder in the death of a taxi driver.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Jerrel Files stands accused of fatally shooting 42-year-old Michael N. Uche Saturday morning in front of a home on Goulburn Street.

Uche worked for Checker Cab.

Files is charged with first-degres murder, felony murder, assault with intent to rob and a gun charge.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

Three other cab drivers have been slain in Detroit since September.

Tyrone Hitchcock was shot and killed Jan. 3. Jawan McQueen was slain in October during an apparent robbery and another cab driver was killed Sept. 24.
