Police say it started when a man got into an argument with his girlfriend.

A Garden City man faces multiple charges after police say he fired shots at his girlfriend Monday night when she tried to leave him.

Police say Robert Schultz, 29, got into an argument with his girlfriend because she wanted to leave. Moments later, he grabbed a pistol and AK-47 and fired multiple shots on Cherry Hill Road just west of Merriman Road.

Schultz faces a list of charges including five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of wearing body armor during the commission of a violent crime and one count of felony firearm possession while committing a felony.

He was arraigned Thursday and is being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 24 for a preliminary examination.
