ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A 40-year-old man has been arrested after being involved in a stand off with police Friday evening at a Royal Oak business.

Royal Oak police said officers responded to the report of a fight inside LGM Landscaping on Leafdale and found the suspect's family members outside in the parking lot, saying the suspect was armed and had threatened to kill himself and others.

Gunshots were heard coming from inside the business and a SWAT team was called in.

After brief negotiations, the suspect was coaxed out of the building, police said.

The suspect has since been identified as Berkley resident Benjamin Carl Farlow-Wolgast.

Police said he was combative with officers and kicked the inside of a patrol car, causing damage, while he was being driven to Beaumont Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. He has been charged with malicious destruction of property and resisting and obstructing police.

Police said Farlow-Wolgast had a similar incident in 2009 when he barricaded himself inside his Berkley home and fired off at least one shot.
