Macomb Township mother accused of using 11-year-old to steal groceries

Sheriff: Mom told daughter to fill cart up, walk out of store

DETROIT – A Macomb Township mother stands accused of using her 11-year-old to steal a cart of groceries from a Kroger store.

In a release about the incident, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, said 29-year-old Kimberly Swift waited in the car Thursday while her 11-year-old daughter went into the store with a shopping list, loaded up the cart and left the store without paying.

Wickersham said Swift tried to return two bottles of detergent just minutes later, claiming her daughter had bought the wrong the brand.

But the store's loss prevention determined that the items hadn't been paid for.

Swift was arrested.

She has been charged with retail fraud and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Child Protective Services turned over her 11-year-old, along with a 5-year-old and 8-year-old to family members.
