Lowell dad finds 27 cats in daughter's bedroom, more outside the home

These are some of the cats found inside a Kent County woman's home

KENT COUNTY, Mich. – A startling discovery was made by a Kent County man when he walked into his adult daughter's bedroom.   He found 27 cats inside the room, only a handful of them were adults and the rest were kittens.

The dad said he knew there were a lot of cats outside the home, but was surprised so many were living in the small bedroom without his knowing.  The homeowner's adult daughter had left for a few days when he decided to look inside. Before, he had respected her privacy.

Officials with the Humane Society of Western Michigan described the home as being a single-story ranch style and well-kept.   The cats inside were contained to the woman's room – and the smell was not apparent until her bedroom door was opened.

Some of the rescued cats are thin and appeared to suffer from malnutrition. But overall they look quite healthy.

The humane society is accepting cash donations to help with medical care. All the cats will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Many will be ready for adoption as early as next week.
