YPSILANTI, Mich. -

Local 4 has learned that Ypsilanti Public Schools is handing out pink slips to teachers and support staff as the district merges with Willow Run.

A spokeswoman for the district said the layoffs -- officially announced Friday -- were part of the consolidation process of taking the two districts and turning them into one.

The number of layoffs were not immediately known, but would affect both teachers and support staff such as custodians, bus drivers and maintenance workers.

The layoffs are effective June 30.
