PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says he is "on the mend" since being seriously injured in an Aug. 10 car crash in Auburn Hills.
On Tuesday, Patterson released his first statement on the crash and his ongoing recovery.

"I'm on the mend and look forward to returning to the office soon," Patterson said. "I broke a hip, leg, ankle, five ribs and both wrists in the accident and they need some time to heal. I just completed my first week of intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation and am pleased to report it went very well. My staff meets with me daily and they have done an outstanding job handling day-to-day operations. My team remains committed to continuing to implement my enduring goal of making Oakland County among the best places to live, work, play, and raise a family."
Patterson's driver and two people in the other vehicle were injured. The county executive was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the other vehicle has been charged in the crash.
Patterson is in his 2nd week of rehabilitation at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. He plans to provide weekly updates about his condition and when he will be released.
