Kwame Kilpatrick speaks at local church

Kwame Kilpatrick was back in Metro Detroit Sunday, speaking at the New Life Family Church in Hamtramck.

Kilpatrick presented his speech titled "No Guts, No Glory" at the annual "Heritage Sunday" worship service. According to the church, the service is in honor of African-American history month. "Heritage Sunday" is a day for people to share stories of African-American leadership and achievement while recognizing the sacrifices and struggles of the leaders.

During the service, there was standing room only as Kilpatrick delivered his message. The ex-mayor told the congregation we all have our demons, but he's conquered his and he's not the same Kwame Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick's mother, Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, and father, Bernard Kilpatrick attended the service.

The former mayor also signed copies of his book, Surrendered: The Rise, Fall, and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick.

On Monday, Kilpatrick will do a live interview from the church for a Christian cable show at 10 a.m. The taping is open to the public and after Kilpatrick will take questions from the audience.
