DETROIT -

Kid Rock says he plans to go out on a club tour this fall for charity.

The Michigan musician made the announcement Friday in Detroit, where he was given the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award.

Kid Rock says the tour will benefit a not-yet-named cultural organization in Detroit. He hopes to raise about $1 million.

Details are still being ironed out, but Kid Rock expects to launch the monthlong outing in the South in mid-November, tour around the country and end back in Detroit before Christmas.

The McNamara award is presented to those who have significantly contributed to the Detroit-area community.

"I never started this to get awards, I don't really care about Grammy Awards, but it's nice to be appreciated in your hometown," Kid Rock said.

Award officials say Kid Rock has consistently shown support for the city and its people through various philanthropic initiatives.

Previous McNamara award winners include Ford Motor Co. President and CEO Alan Mulally and the late Detroit Tigers manager, Sparky Anderson.

Money raised from Friday's event is to go toward the Detroit Goodfellows' 2011 fundraising goal of $1.3 million, which will help provide 35,000 holiday gift packages for area children.
