DETROIT -

NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski is trading in his super-fast race car for a slow-moving float -- at least for one day.

The newly crowned Sprint Cup Series champion is set to appear Thursday in Detroit's annual Thanksgiving Day parade.

The 28-year-old Keselowski is a native of Rochester Hills and the first Michigan-born driver to win the Cup Series crown.

Keselowski says the chance to ride in the parade "is a great opportunity," especially considering his roots in the area

Known as "America's Thanksgiving Parade," it boasts of being one of the oldest and most celebrated such parades in the country and second in size only to the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City.

Other celebrities scheduled to attend include Olympic swimmer Allison Schmitt, singer Ashanti and actor Jason Earles.
