Jeffrey Collins starts a new job in Robert Ficano's Office

DETROIT -

Former U.S. Attorney General Jeffrey Collins is known for his integrity and reputation.

Collins has replaced Wayne County Deputy Executive Azzam Elder's, who resigned from the position Thursday afternoon amid a 30-day suspension for his hand in former county economic development leader Turkia Mullin's severance package.

"One thing I definitely want to oversee is to make sure that the proper checks and balances are in place so the mistakes which happened in the past do not repeat themselves," Collins said.Collins inherits an FBI probe into how the county does business and the aftermath of the Mullin severance scandal.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano hired Collins and two others Thursday afternoon -- Zenna Elhasan and Ray Byers. Elhasan is the county's new corporation counsel director while Byers will head economic development, Mullin's former position.
