Temps are expected to be in the 90s!

DETROIT -

The National Weather Service says hot and humid weather that could be hazardous is in the forecast for parts of Michigan through Saturday.

The weather service issued heat advisories for Thursday across southern Michigan, where temperatures in the upper 90s were expected in places. Officials urged caution, since the heat could be dangerous especially to the elderly and young children, as well as those who will be exposed to the heat all day.

In Detroit and other parts of southeast Michigan, hot temperatures were expected into the weekend. The weather service says thunderstorms also could break out at times.

Air quality alerts also were issued. The weather service says record highs could be broken on Thursday or later in the week.

Local 4Casters' forecast for metro Detroit

Thursday morning will be dry and warm with temperatures cruising through the 70s into the 80s by lunchtime.

The afternoon heat and stagnant air spark a Heat Advisory and Air Quality Alert for Detroit and all of Southeast Michigan.  Highs will soar into the upper 90s, and heat indexes will be above 100 degrees.  People must take precautions like wearing light and loose-fitting clothes and refraining from strenuous outdoor activity to remain cool.  In addition, driving and use of gas-powered lawn equipment need to be curtailed to cut down air pollution levels.

Air conditioners will be needed through Thursday night because it will be warm and muggy.  Overnight lows will be in the 70s.

Hot and humid air keep hovering over the Motown area Friday with highs in the low 90s.  There is a chance of showers and storms, but they will not be the widespread soakers southern Michigan needs.

A third day of 90-plus degree heat will occur Saturday with hazy sunshine.  Sunday will not be as hot with highs in the upper 80s and another possibility of on and off showers.
