Hearing today in Aiyana Jones manslaughter case
Whether media should be allowed to witness and record a flash bang grenade deployment before the Joseph Weekley and Allison Howard trial begins will be argued Friday morning in the courtroom of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway.
Weekley, a former Detroit Police Officer, and Allison Howard, an A&E television producer, both face charges relating to the death of seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones.
The girl was killed in May 2010 when members of a special response team burst into her home in search of a man wanted for an earlier murder. An A&E cable network crew was shadowing police on the raid.
Initially, members of the media were told they weren't allowed to witness or record the flash bang grenade deployment demonstration in advance of the trial due to the fact that the Judge has yet to decide whether this will be admitted as evidence.
Local 4 News will be in the courtroom today and will bring you the latest updates as we get them.
