Hamtramck police issue alert after man approaches boy near school

Police in Hamtramck are issuing an alert to parents after a 12-year-old boy said he was nearly taken by a stranger Monday afternoon near the Hanley International Academy school.

The boy told police a man in a Dodge Ram pickup truck approached him on Denton Street, exited the vehicle's passenger side and ran up behind him. The man grabbed the back of the boy's jacket. The boy broke away quickly and ran to safety.

Police are not sure what the man's intent was. They are investigating.

The man is described as white, in his mid 30s with dirty blonde hair, a small goatee and gages in his ears. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 175 pounds.

Parents are asked to be extra vigilant.
