LIVONIA, Mich. -

The Livonia Fire Department responded to an early morning fire at an apartment complex on Sunday.

Police say when they arrived to the Franklin Square Apartments, the building was already engulfed in flames.

The fire started after 5:00 a.m. in a unit located on the 28000 block of Lancaster, near 5 Mile and Middlebelt roads.

Police said a 42-year-old woman and her 41-year-old husband were found outside the building with two of their three children.

The woman told officers the third child was still inside the apartment.

A police sergeant and three officers attempted to get into the building, but they were stopped at the top of the second floor by the intensity of the blaze.

Members of the Livonia Fire Department arrived and were able to enter and find the 10-year-old child, who is now listed in critical condition at the University of Michigan Hospital.

The woman and her 2-year-old daughter were treated for minor injuries at Botsford Hospital. The husband is currently listed in critical condition.

Another child, age 7, is listed in serious condition also at U of M.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire and no other injuries were reported.
