FERNDALE, Mich. -

Ferndale police say a 21-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning after it was discovered he was driving a stolen car and tried to flee from police.

Police said an officer tried to pull over a Pontiac G6 near Woodward and 8 Mile Road at about 4 a.m. after the license plate revealed that the car had been reported stolen Sept. 4 during an armed robbery.  But the car took off, speeding through a nearby Detroit neighborhood.

Police said the driver bailed out of the car and took off on foot. The car crashed into a tree.

The suspect, a Detroit resident, was later found walking in the same area and taken into custody.

A warrant has been submitted for charges.
