WESTLAND, Mich. -

Westland police are on the lookout for two men who dressed as city workers and scammed their way into a home near Joy Road and Inkster.

Police told Local 4 the mend did not show a weapon or hurt the couple and wanted to get into the home to see what they could steal.

"It's happened in the past, but there is no pattern," said Lt. Mike Harold.

Harold added that the couple most likely was confused and caught up in the moment which allowed the fake workers to gain access to the home.

City officials warn that all homeowners should be vigilant and look for the proper identification.

"All our guys are going to arrive in marked vehicles. The city of Westland logo is going to be on them. They are either going to say meter division, or meter department," said Ted Williams with the Westland Water Department. "Every single employee will also have a badge."

Police warn not to fall for somebody's fast talk, and to understand that city workers will make it obvious who they are, and who they work for.

"We will knock on the door, announce who we are, show our badges and say there is a problem. Either you can let us in or you can call to make an appointment which is fine too," said Williams

If you are at all unsure about who is at your door, please call police.
