District releases statement on Ann Arbor football brawl

Ann Arbor Pioneer, Huron football coaches, some students suspended for fight after game

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ann Arbor Public Schools officials say the district has concluded its initial investigation into a football brawl this past weekend which left several players injured.

The brawl happened after a game between Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Pioneer. The coaches were in a verbal altercation and a massive fight broke out between the teams.

The Ann Arbor superintendent has not said how many students were suspended but did say both coaches were suspended for two games.

"These suspensions are due to the coaches' flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct," said the Ann Arbor superintendent in a statement. "AAPS is very disappointed with the behavior of these coaches and lack of sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field."

Ann Arbor police continue to investigate the fight.
